TAPPED 4-40 FOR A MAGAZINE RELEASE PADDLE
The face of this mag catch is drilled and tapped 4-40 so you can add a compatible magazine release paddle. The paddle and 4-40 paddle screw are not included. EGW magazine release paddles come with the correct screw, or the screw can be purchased separately.
Product Overview
The EGW Drilled & Tapped Mag Catch is a machined replacement magazine catch built for the Springfield Prodigy, with a threaded face that lets you choose and install your own magazine release paddle.
It is available in two versions:
- Stainless Steel, Glass Bead Finish: machined from solid stainless for corrosion resistance and a uniform matte silver look that suits stainless controls and two-tone builds.
- Barstock Steel, Blued Finish: machined from solid barstock steel and blued for a dark, traditional finish that blends with black and blued slides, frames, and controls.
Both versions share the same Prodigy-specific geometry, the same 4-40 paddle interface, and include an ISMI mag catch spring so you can install the catch with a fresh spring instead of reusing the factory one.

Designed for the Springfield Prodigy
Mag catch geometry controls how the magazine is held and positioned in the grip. This catch is designed specifically for the Prodigy double-stack 1911 platform to provide positive magazine retention and a clean release when pressed.
PRODIGY-SPECIFIC FITMENT
This mag catch is intended for Springfield Prodigy pistols only. Double-stack 1911 and 2011-style grips vary by manufacturer, so do not assume compatibility with other platforms.
4-40 Drilled & Tapped Paddle Interface
The threaded 4-40 hole in the face of the catch accepts a compatible magazine release paddle, giving you a larger or differently shaped release surface. That means a shorter reach for the shooting hand and the freedom to pick the paddle style that fits your grip, making it a strong choice for competition, range, and custom Prodigy builds.
Machined From Solid, Not MIM
Both versions are machined from solid steel, which lets EGW tightly control the critical surfaces that contact the grip and magazine.
- Stainless version: machined from solid stainless, then glass bead finished for a uniform matte appearance with built-in corrosion resistance.
- Blued version: machined from solid barstock steel, then blued for a deep, dark finish. As with any blued part, a light coat of oil helps protect the finish from moisture and handling.

Each mag catch ships with an ISMI magazine catch spring, so your installation starts with a fresh, quality spring.

Installation & Fitment
Dimensions can vary slightly between individual pistols, grips, and magazines, so minor fitting may be required.
After installation, confirm that the mag catch moves freely, positively retains the magazine, releases it correctly when pressed, and does not bind against the grip or magazine body. If you install a paddle, make sure the paddle and screw are secure and that the paddle does not interfere with the grip, trigger guard, holster, or normal operation of the pistol.
FITMENT NOTE
Minor fitting may be required. Verify magazine retention, magazine height, release operation, spring tension, and paddle compatibility before use.
